• Construction Begins on Upper School Academic Center

Donning hard hats and “crew” t-shirts, Newark Academy community members came together to celebrate at the construction kick-off ceremony for the new Upper School Academic Center. During the September 22 event, trustees, administrators, teachers, and students had the historic opportunity to sign a framed-out wall of sheet rock that is now a permanent part of the new building.

“While the sheet rock signed today will be embedded in the new building and not visible to those who pass through its halls, it signifies that the people who make up this great community are always at Newark Academy’s core,” said Lisa Grider, director of institutional advancement.

The ceremony marked the official beginning of the first phase of a series of construction, renovation, and expansion projects for the school. Plans for this phase encompass 18,500 square feet of new construction and 2,500 square feet of renovated space, and will include 13 classrooms, two science labs, a multipurpose area, three collaborative learning rooms, and a commons area.
