• Philip D. Kaltenbacher ’55

Phil Kaltenbacher inherited his love of Newark Academy from his father, Joseph Kaltenbacher ’24, who loved to share stories of his student days. The younger Kaltenbacher went on to attend Yale College and Yale Law School before launching a successful business career, serving as chairman and CEO of auto industry supplier Seton Company and then focusing on real estate development. Understanding that it takes more than fond memories to maintain and nurture a world-class school, Phil (through the Kaltenbacher Family Foundation) made a $1 million gift in support of the Upper School’s Academic Center construction. The state-of-the-art multi-purpose room, Kaltenbacher Hall, is named in memory of his father. “We were taught to ‘get in the thick of it’ and to help make things happen,” Phil says. And through his generous support, he’s doing just that.
