Middle School Expansion Update
On April 12, 2016, NA leadership dropped their shovels as part of the groundbreaking ceremony for the Newark Academy Middle School expansion project. Head of School Donald Austin welcomed the audience of NA trustees, faculty, students, parents, grandparents, alumni and friends saying, “Today’s ceremony is the culmination of a more than three-year effort. We have all shared the same vision – that our outstanding Middle School curriculum and the students for whom that curriculum exists – have a first-rate facility in which to learn, grow and prepare for the future.”
A great deal of progress on the new Middle School has been made since the groundbreaking ceremony, most notably, the steel frame and underground electrical and plumbing is complete. Work continues on the interior and exterior stairs, electric and plumbing, as well as the brick exterior.
The Middle School expansion is the third phase of the Rise & Flourish Campaign with an anticipated completion of Fall 2017. The nearly 22,000-square-foot building will accommodate modest enrollment growth and will include 10 classrooms, three science laboratories and a large multipurpose commons area . The enhancements will continue to strengthen the Middle School academic program, empowering NA students to thrive beyond the classroom.
